Understand the statutory distinction between the mandatory 2-year Legal Guarantee and the voluntary commercial Durability Guarantee under European Commission regulations.
The GARAN label is only mandatory when the manufacturer or producer offers a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years at no extra cost to the consumer. If no commercial durability guarantee is provided, the GARAN label must not be displayed.
In online shops, sellers must display the full Colour GARAN label or the compact Nested Display badge on the product detail page, in close proximity to the price and "Add to cart" button. The nested display must expand or link to the full label.
In brick-and-mortar stores, the label may be printed in Colour or Black & White. It can be affixed directly to the product packaging, shelf tag, or product display. The minimum height must ensure clear legibility of all 24 EU translation texts in the bottom bar.
